Welcome to Stradbroke Island

Welcome to your guide on visiting Stradbroke Island, where we take a look at the wide range of accommodation available on Straddie, some of the activities you can enjoy and the places you may like to visit when you get here.

Easily accessible from Brisbane, Stradbroke Island is a popular holiday destination for locals and for travellers from further afield, with amazing scenery, beautiful sandy beaches and a wonderful subtropical climate.

The island was divided more than 100 years ago by storms creating two islands: North Stradbroke Island and South Stradbroke Island, with the northern island being the more popular of the two with most visitors.

Stradbroke Island Accommodation
Both islands have resort accommodation as well as camping grounds, but with North Stradbroke Island being the bigger draw it has a far wider selection to choose from, catering to backpackers, flashpackers, families and just about everyone else. North Stradbroke Island even has it’s very own highly acclaimed Y.H.A. conveniently located at Point Lookout.

North Stradbroke Island has the most activities to offer visitors and with the beautiful long sandy beaches, water based activities like swimming, surfing, kayaking and diving are hugely popular. Dolphins can be spotted all year round, and between June and November humpback whales may be able to be seen from the shore.

Point Lookout is also home to the Island Vibe Festival, which takes place for three days each October and features bands from around Australia and the South Pacific region.

More Things to Do
There are plenty of walks to be enjoyed, with some of most popular attractions being Point Lookout and the two lakes Brown Lake and Blue Lake are well worth seeing.

There is also a Par 70, nine hole Golf Course on the northern island, open seven days a week and with a licensed club house for anyone fancying a game.

Getting Here
Stradbroke Ferries and Sea Stradbroke operate passenger and vehicle ferries between Cleveland and Dunwich, with the trip taking around 45 minutes. Stradbroke Flyer also provide a catamaran service to the island.

Come visit Straddie and see for yourself what makes it such a popular holiday destination for so many people – you will love it!
